I always foolishly believed that an explation's beauty is measured by it's simplicity and intuitive approach. Well there is an "escape" altitude, and that is at the edge of sphere of influence of the central mass. Technically that is also related to the horizontal velocity (where you are technically moving at the same velocity as the central mass). Escape altitude in all its practical effects would be seen as the relatively stationary points, but at this point its more in an helio-centric orbit than a geo-centric orbit (an example is L2 point where Webb telescope is currently). For Earth its 1.5 million kilometres.
